Despite the importance of wind-generated waves (short-term waves) and tides (long-term waves) induced by astronomical factors, their measurements are extremely scarce particularly in the Araya underwater valley. Information collected at two marine stations was used to assess the behavior of these parameters in the region. It was concluded that in the drought season the average of the significant height of the waves is between 14.9 and 15.42 cm, the average period between 4.86 s and 5.16 s and the direction of the waves was stable with preponderance of the NE and little dispersion. In the rainy season the values respectively were: 9.58 cm - 9.99 cm, 4.34 s - 5.00 s and the direction quite dispersed. The tide is mainly daytime mixed with amplitude of up to 41 cm. The high tide or “filling” takes place in the early hours of the afternoon and the lowering or “emptying” in the hours of the night. The main constituents of harmonics are: three daytime (K1, O1, Q1), three semi-day (M2, S2, N2) and the monthly lunar component and fortnightly synodic lunisolar (Mm, Msf). These components contribute 78.32% of the tidal amplitude. This work together with two previous ones tries to respond to the behavior of atmospheric (wind) and marine dynamic parameters (currents, waves and tides) in the Araya underwater valley region in northeastern Venezuela.
