La Guardia inlet is an important fishing area, notably for the seabob shrimp fishery, an activity carried out using artisanal trawl nets in various areas of the inlet. As part of the characterization of the seabob shrimp fishing zone, sediment samples collected from 18 areas with the highest fishing intensity were analyzed. Grain size analysis was performed using mechanical separation, and the percentage of organic matter was estimated through the loss-on-ignition and gravimetry method. Data analysis was conducted using the statistical software Gradistat V9 and the Folk and Ward method (Φ). The results showed predominantly sandy sediment, with a high proportion of very fine sand (54.7%) and fine sand (25.1%), displaying a poorly sorted bimodal distribution of very fine sand, very fine-skewed, and very leptokurtic. Regarding organic matter content, an average of 7.95% ± 6.37 was recorded, with the highest concentrations found at stations near the breakwaters, as this is a depositional zone. Marine sediment research in this region is scarce and necessary, as it constitutes baseline studies primarily in areas where fishing activities associated with the seabed are practiced.
