Manzanillo bay is located in the northern area of the isla de Margarita. It is a fishing port that is influenced by upwelling during the first half of the year. During 12 consecutive months were collected samples of benthic algae from the rocky coastline and water samples to determine salinity, temperature, and pH. A total of 78 species were identified of which 49 were new records for the bay, seven were new records for Nueva Esparta and five were new records for the Venezuelan coast. After a period of 29 years since the last inventory, a different phycoflora was observed, some pollution indicator species included, such as the ones from Grateloupia genus and the Ulvales order. About the species characterised as upwelling indicators, Levringia brasilensis was not found, only the presence of Gelidium floridanum occurred.
