Abstract

This is the first record for Venezuela of the non-native specie Neopomacentrus cyanomos found in the Cochaima sector, near the town of Santa Fe, Sucre State. A group of 10 specimens with estimated sizes between 7 cm and 11 cm were observed, not associated with other pomacentrids. The dark coloration of the specimens was predominant. The presence of this specie in Venezuela seems to be associated with its occurrence in Trinidad, supporting the hypothesis of its arrival in the region on oil
platforms. Its expansion to Venezuela may serve to classify the specie as invasive and poses a potential danger to the entire Caribbean
