This paper presents information about the ficofloristic composition of the Falcón
state. It is estimated a total of 87 species of marine algae, represented in 3 Phyla, 19 orders, 36 families
and 57 genera. The highest proportion of species belongs to the phylum Rhodophyta, with 46 species,
followed by the phylum Chlorophyta with 28 species, and Ochrophyta (Phaeophyceae) with 12 taxa, these
records were obtained as a result of the collections made in twenty fourth locations of the Falcon state,
with 600 Km was stimmed important biodiversity because of geomorphologic characteristic, substrate
heterogeneity and geographical position with respect to marine currents along the Venezuelan coast. In
addition, this work highlight the need to deepen and update the knowledge of the state phycoflora, mainly
for economically important groups.
