We have achieved reproduction of Penaeus schmitti, under controlled conditions of laboratory, utilizing shrimp captured in natural marine ambient. Reproduction was studied by induction of maturation, by artificial insemination, and by spawning induction of females copulated in natural environment. Females spawned, in average, the eighth day after initiated induction process of maturation. We performed seven cycles of maturation, obtaining 157 spawnings of which observed the 5% of successful copulae. Each female produced an average of 29,000 nauplii. Through artificial insemination method, we produced an average of 30,000 nauplii per female, meanwhile through females copulated in natural environment, a maximum number of 89,000 nauplii per female. Larval survival was not significantly different among three types of reproduction methods utilized.
