The present work is based on a study of 277 specimens of the stripped catfish Pseudoplatystoma fasciatum Linnaeus 1776 (Pisces: Pimelodidae), locally known as "Bagre Rayado". Sampling was done monthly between January to December 1987 in Laguna Grande de Maturin, Venezuela, using a gill net as well as a dragnet. The following aspects were studied: sexual dimorphism based on morphometric and macroscopic characteristic of gonads, sex ratio /month/year, sexual maturity, size at first maturity, annual reproductive cycle, spawing season and absolute and relative fecundity. Sex ratio favoured the females (6,5:1). Minimum size of mature specimens were 56 and 45 cm S1 for females and males, respectively. Period of high gonadal activity was observed from of May to August with highest spawning in September. Relative fecundity was 8,135 ovules/g. and 8,320 ovules/cm.
